Default Check-in Settings, Explained

How school-wide check-in settings work, where to find them, and whether they can be changed for individual members.

Written by Ben Ryoo

These settings apply to every member of your school. They control how members check in, what staff and members see during check-in, and which members are allowed to check in.

You'll find them under Settings → System & Security → Check-in.

The page has three sections. Status exclusions sit inside the Front desk kiosk section.

Area

What it controls

From the student app

Whether members can check themselves in from their own phone, and how close to the school they must be

Front desk kiosk

What the kiosk shows and does, including automated check-in messages, how long the confirmation stays on screen, and Face Recognition Consent

All check-in methods

Rules that apply however a member checks in: Limit check-ins per day, Remind members before their membership expires, and Default rank for multi-program members

Exclude member statuses (in Front desk kiosk)

Which member statuses can't check in at the kiosk. Staff can still check them in from the attendance page.

Default rank for multi-program members only applies when a member checks in without choosing a class. When they choose a class, they check in with that class's rank system, so NextKick doesn't ask which rank to use. To choose which members check in with their default rank automatically, click Manage next to this setting and turn Default Auto Check-In on or off for each member.

Do these settings apply to every member?

Mostly. These settings apply to every member of your school, and you can’t set different rules for one program. Two settings can be changed for a single member:

  • Attendance limit: change it for one student with Actions → Edit attendance limit on their membership. See Why Can't a Student Check In or Book a Class?

  • Default rank for multi-program members: click Manage to turn Default Auto Check-In on or off for each member.

If you need to make an exception for a specific member, staff can check that member in manually from the attendance page, or use the Force Check-in button at the kiosk if Allow override when a limit is reached is turned on.

Can I set different check-in rules for one program?

No. Check-in settings are set once for the whole school and apply to every program and every member. If a member is enrolled in more than one program, the same check-in rules apply to all of them.
