NextKick records attendance every time a student checks in. This guide covers the check-in options, how to choose whether students must pick a class, how to add attendance by hand and where to review it.

Ways students can check in
Method | How it works |
Kiosk | Students check in on a tablet at your front desk. Click Self Check-in at the top of the admin to open it. |
Student app | Students check in from their own phone. |
Group check-in | Staff check in a whole class at once. See Bulk Actions: Check In, Promote, and Manage Students in Groups. |
By hand | Staff add attendance from a student's profile (Step 2). |
Step 1: Choose whether students must pick a class
Go to Settings → Schedule.
Find the Check-in section.
Set these options:
Setting | What it does |
Link Schedule to Check-in | Connects your class and appointment schedule to check-in. |
Walk-In Check-In | Adding a member to a class also checks them in, in one step. |
Check-In Without a Class | On: students can check in at the kiosk, in the app or with QR attendance even with no class to select. Off: students can check in only by selecting a class. |
Tip: If students suddenly can't check in, check Check-In Without a Class. When it's off, students who aren't registered for a class have nothing to select.
Step 2: Add attendance by hand
Use this when a student forgot to check in.
Go to Accounts → Profiles and open the student.
Open the Attendances tab.
Click Add Attendance.
Set the Date and Time.
Under Select Rank System, choose the rank the attendance counts toward.
Click Create.
Step 3: Review and fix attendance
For one student
The student's Attendances tab lists every check-in with the date, Check-in Type, class, rank system and status.
Filter by date, Check-in Type or rank system.
Switch between the list and chart views with the icons next to Add Attendance.
Click the pencil icon to edit a record, or the trash icon to delete it.
Click Export to download the list.
For the whole school
Go to Attendance → Attendance History to see every check-in. It shows today by default. Search for a member or change the date range to see more. Each entry shows how the student checked in, their membership and rank.
Other check-in settings
More options are in Settings → System & Security → Check-in, including:
Allow self check-in and Require members to be at the school for the student app
Exclude member statuses from check-in to block certain statuses at the kiosk. Staff can still check them in from the attendance page.
Allow override when a limit is reached to add a Force Check-in button at the kiosk
Limit check-ins per day
Remind members before their membership expires
For details, see What are Default Check-in Settings?
FAQ
A student can't check in at the kiosk. What should I check?
Is Check-In Without a Class off, and is the student not registered for a class?
Is the student's status excluded in Exclude member statuses from check-in?
Has the student reached their membership's weekly or monthly limit, or the daily limit?
How are attendance limits counted when a student has more than one membership?
Attendance is counted per student, not per membership. If any one of a student's memberships is unlimited, the student can check in without a limit.
A student checked in twice by mistake. How do I remove one?
Open the student's Attendances tab and click the trash icon next to the extra record.
