A family membership lets several family members share one membership, with one price and one combined payment each billing period. For example, two siblings, or a parent and child training together, can all be on one membership.
How family members are linked
All family members share one email address. Students whose profiles use the same email address are linked as a family automatically, and they appear in the Family Members section of each student's profile.
Tip: If a family member is missing, check that their profile uses exactly the same email address.
Create a family membership
Go to Accounts → Profiles and select one of the family members
Open the Membership tab and click Add Membership
Select New
Choose the Plan Type (Main or Add-on), then choose the plan under Membership Name
Under Add Family Members to this Membership, check each family member this membership should cover
Check the course period, start and end dates, and set the price for the whole family. The plan's price is filled in, and you can adjust it.
Choose a payment plan, complete the billing and agreement details, and save
Only family members already linked to the student appear in the list.
How a family membership works
Attendance: each family member gets the plan's full attendance limit. For example, if the limit is 2 sessions per week, each student on the membership can attend 2 sessions per week.
Billing: the family is billed with one combined charge each billing period, covering everyone on the membership. Failed payments, late fees and overdue invoices work the same way as for any other membership. See How Autopay Works & What Happens When a Payment Fails.
Adding or removing family members later
You can add or remove family members on a family membership after it's created:
Go to Accounts → Profiles and select one of the family members
Open the Membership tab
On the family membership, click Actions → Manage family sharing
Under Share with family members, check or uncheck each family member, and click Save
The autopay amount doesn't change automatically. After adding or removing someone, update the price yourself:
On the same membership, click Actions → Edit billing schedule
Change the Autopay Amount to the new price for the family
Click Save changes
For the full steps, including charging for a partial month and what to do when the main member leaves, see How to Add or Remove a Sibling on a Family Membership.
When to use individual memberships instead
A family membership works best when everyone is on the same plan with the same billing date. If family members are on different plans or membership types, or need different billing dates, we recommend creating an individual membership for each person. You can still give each one a sibling rate by adjusting their price.
| Family membership | Individual memberships |
Memberships | One, shared by the family | One for each person |
Price | One price for the whole family | Each person has their own price (e.g., a sibling rate) |
Payment | One combined charge | Each membership is charged separately |
Attendance limit | Each person gets the full limit | Each person gets their own plan's limit |
Best for | Same plan and same billing date | Different plans, membership types or billing dates |
Common questions
How does NextKick know students are in the same family?
Family members share one email address. Students whose profiles use the same email address are linked as a family automatically.
Can family members have different email addresses?
No. To be linked as a family, all family members need to use the same email address.
Why isn't a family member showing up when I add the membership?
Only linked family members appear. Check that their profile uses the same email address as the student's.
Is the family charged once or once per student?
Once. A family membership has one combined charge for everyone on it.
If the attendance limit is 2 per week, is that shared by the family?
No. Each family member on the membership gets 2 sessions per week.
Can I add or remove a family member later?
Yes. On the membership, click Actions → Manage family sharing. Then update the price with Actions → Edit billing schedule, because the autopay amount doesn't change automatically.
What if siblings are in different programs or pay on different dates?
Create an individual membership for each one. You can still set a sibling rate by adjusting each membership's price.
