Parents can sign in to the NextKick student app with their own email and password, instead of using the student's login. This guide shows how to turn on App login for a parent, change their password, and turn it off again.
Before you start
You need access to Accounts → Profiles.
Add the parent under Parents Contacts with their own email. See How to Manage a Member's Profile and Family.
The parent's email must be different from the student's email and from any other parent who already has App login.
The parent needs the NextKick student app. See How Students Download and Log In to the NextKick App
Tip: App login is optional. Families can keep sharing the student's login if that works for them.
Step 1: Open the member's details
Go to Accounts → Profiles and open the student.
Open the Member Info tab.
Next to Member details, click Edit.
App login isn't on the screen for adding a new member. Add the member first, then turn on App login here.
Step 2: Turn on App login for a parent
Under Parents Contacts, find the parent.
Turn on App login, below the parent's phone number.
Enter a password in both password fields. Click the eye icon to see what you typed.
Click Save, then confirm.
The password needs at least 8 characters, with a letter, a number and a special character, and no spaces. Each rule gets a green check as you meet it, and Passwords match appears when both fields are the same.
Give the parent their email and the password you set. They sign in on the same login screen as students.
Step 3: Check which parents can log in
On the member's profile, each parent card shows App login: Allowed or App login: Not allowed.
Step 4: Change a parent's password
There's no forgot-password option for parents. If a parent forgets their password, set a new one for them:
Open the member's Member details and click Edit.
Under the parent, you'll see A password is set for this guardian. Click Change password.
Enter the new password in both fields.
Click Save, then confirm.
You don't need the old password. If you click Cancel instead, the password stays the same.
Step 5: Turn off App login
Open the member's Member details and click Edit.
Turn off App login for the parent.
Click Save, then confirm.
The parent can't log in anymore. If they're already signed in, the app stops working for them. Their card shows App login: Not allowed.
What parents see in the app
After they log in, the app opens the student's profile. My Profile shows Signed in as guardian and the parent's name.
If the family has more than one child, the parent switches between them in My Profile → Family Members.
They see the same things the student login sees, such as the schedule, invoices and class history.
Parents can change their own password in the app. This changes only their password, not the student's.
Only the student's own login or your school can turn App login on or off. A signed-in parent can still edit their own name and phone number.
A student can also turn on App login for a parent in the student app. On Home, they tap their name at the top, then go to My Profile → Guardian Info → Edit.
Common questions
Can a parent use the same email as the student?
No. If the email belongs to the student or to another parent with App login, you'll see Email is already in use. Give the parent their own email first.
A parent can't log in. What should I check?
Make sure their card shows App login: Allowed and that they use the email shown on their card. If the email or password is wrong, or App login is off, the app shows: "The email or password is incorrect. If you still can't sign in, please contact your school." To fix a forgotten password, follow Step 4.
Do parents get their own messages?
App login only controls signing in to the app. Which emails and texts a parent receives is set with System Automation and Workflow messages on the same screen. See How to Manage a Member's Profile and Family.
