How to Give Sibling or Family Discounts on Memberships

Give siblings a lower rate by changing the autopay amount, sharing a family membership, waiving the signup fee, or using a coupon.

Written by Ben Ryoo

You don't need a separate plan to give a sibling or family discount. You can set a lower price on the student's own membership, share one membership across the family, waive the signup fee, or take money off one payment with a coupon. This guide compares the options and walks you through each one.

Before you start

Which option to use

Best for

How

Lower autopay amount

Each sibling has their own membership at a discounted monthly rate

Change the Auto payment amount when you add the membership (Step 1), or later with Actions → Edit billing schedule (Step 2)

Family membership

Siblings share one membership with one combined payment

Check them under Add Family Members to this Membership (Step 3)

Waive or lower the signup fee

A second or third child joining

Enter 0 (or a lower amount) in Signup fee when you add the membership (Step 4)

Coupon

A one-time discount on one payment at sign-up, not every month

Create a coupon in Payments → Coupons and enter it when you add the membership (Step 5)

Tip: You can combine options. For example, give a second child a lower Auto payment amount and also waive their signup fee.

Step 1: Set a discounted price when you add the membership

  1. Open the sibling's profile and click the Membership tab.

  2. Click Add Membership and choose New.

  3. Choose the Plan Type and the Membership Name, then click Continue.

  4. Choose the Payment Plan (Auto Payment or Auto Invoice).

  5. Change the Auto payment amount to the discounted price, for example from $150 to $135. To discount the first payment too, also lower the Down Payment Amount.

  6. Finish the billing details, review the payment summary, and click Confirm & Create.

The plan itself doesn't change. Only this student's membership uses the lower amount, and other students still get the plan's price.

Tip: The discounted amount isn't kept when the membership auto-renews. After it renews, change the price again with Actions → Edit billing schedule (Step 2). See Membership Renewals, Explained.

Step 2: Lower the price on an existing membership

Use this when a sibling already has a membership at the full price.

  1. Go to Accounts → Profiles and select the student.

  2. Open the Membership tab.

  3. Find the membership (Auto Payment or Auto Invoice) and click Actions → Edit billing schedule.

  4. Lower the Autopay Amount($) to the discounted price.

  5. Optionally, add a Memo such as "Sibling discount." Only admins can see it.

  6. Click Save changes.

The new amount applies to future payments. Payments already made don't change. Auto-renewal doesn't keep the lower amount, so after the membership renews, change the price again here. See How to Edit a Membership's Autopay Billing Schedule.

Step 3: Share one family membership

With a family membership, siblings share one membership, one price and one combined payment each billing period.

  1. Open one family member's profile, click the Membership tab, then click Add Membership and choose New.

  2. Choose the Plan Type and Membership Name.

  3. Under Add Family Members to this Membership, check each sibling the membership should cover.

  4. Click Continue. In the billing step, enter one combined price for the whole family. The plan's price is filled in, and you can change it.

  5. Finish the billing details and click Confirm & Create.

To add a sibling later, use Actions → Manage family sharing on the membership, then update the price. See How to Add or Remove a Sibling on a Family Membership. For the full setup, see How to Set Up a Family Membership.

Step 4: Waive or lower the signup fee

  1. In Add Membership, go to the billing step.

  2. Find Signup fee and enter 0 to waive it, or enter a lower amount.

  3. Finish the membership as usual.

Renewals and replacements already default to a $0 signup fee. To change the signup fee on a plan for everyone, see How to Set a Signup Fee and a Fixed Billing Day.

Step 5: Take money off one payment with a coupon

A coupon discounts one invoice, not the membership itself. It never lowers the regular autopay payments, so use it for a one-time discount at sign-up. Coupons can't discount the signup fee. To lower or waive it, change the Signup fee in Add Membership instead (Step 4).

  1. Go to Payments → Coupons and click Add New Coupon.

  2. Enter a Coupon Code and Coupon Name, such as SIBLING25 and "Sibling sign-up discount."

  3. Under Eligible charges (Revenue type), select Membership.

  4. Under Membership payment options, choose the payments it applies to: Full payment, Auto payment: initial payment (the down payment), or Auto payment: first charge only. There's no option for the signup fee.

  5. Choose the Discount Type and Amount, set any usage limits, and click Save.

  6. When you add the sibling's membership, enter the code in the Coupon field in the billing step and click Apply.

Auto payment: first charge only applies only when staff add a membership whose first auto payment is charged that day. Enter that code in the Auto payment coupon field. See Coupon Codes: Create and Manage Discounts at Checkout.

Tip: Anyone with the code can use it. Share it only with the families you intend, and turn off Unlimited uses per customer to limit how often one customer can use it.
