If your school picks students up from their schools and runs an after-school program, NextKick can track the whole day: who rides which vehicle, when they were picked up, when they arrived, and when they went home. This guide shows how to set it up and use it each day.
Before you start
After School is a paid add-on. It's free for the first 3 months, then $30 per month. If you don't see After School in the left sidebar, it isn't on your plan yet.
Your staff need access to After School. See Staff Permissions: What Each Access Control Setting Covers.
Programs work like classes. If you haven't set up a class yet, see How to Set Up Your Class Schedule.
Step 1: Add your vehicles
Go to After School → Vehicles.
Click Add Vehicle.
Enter the Vehicle Name, Plate Number and Capacity. You can also add a Vehicle Photo.
Click Save.
Step 2: Create the program
Go to After School → Programs.
Click Add Program.
Enter the Title and Description, and choose a Calendar Color.
Under Schedule, set the days, Start Time, Duration, Instructor and Class Capacity.
Under Select Vehicles, choose the vehicles this program uses. You can pick more than one.
Click Save.
Enter both a Start Date and an End Date, for example the school year, or leave both empty to repeat with no end date.
Step 3: Add students to the program
Open the program from After School → Programs.
Under Member List, click Actions → Add Member.
Find students by Group, Membership, Rank or name, and check the ones to add.
Click Save.
Step 4: Set each student's pickup details
In the program's Member List, click the menu button next to the student, then Edit.
Enter the Pickup Location, such as the student's school. Search for the address or click Pick on Map.
Set the Pickup Time and choose the Vehicle.
Click Save.
Step 5: Track pickup and check-out each day
Open the program and find today's date in the Schedule list.
Click the date. The Member List shows each student's pickup location, time and vehicle.
Check the students, click Update Status, and choose the new status.
Drivers can update the status from the NextKick Admin app as they go, and so can anyone on your staff with access to After School. The Check Out column shows when each student was checked out.
Status | When to use it |
Picked Up | The student is on the vehicle |
Checked In | The student arrived at your school |
Checked Out | The student went home |
Cancelled | The ride is cancelled for today. Parents can cancel a ride themselves and write the reason, which shows in the Reason column. |
Families automatically get a push notification in the NextKick app when their child is picked up, arrives at your school or is checked out, and when a ride is cancelled. You don't need to turn this on.
