Why Can't a Family Submit My Form?

Match what a family sees on your sign-up form to its cause, from the wrong form type to email and payment method problems, and fix it.

Written by Ben Ryoo

When a family can't submit one of your sign-up forms, the cause is usually the form type, the email they use, or the payment method they choose. Find what the family (or you) see in the table below, then follow the fix.

Why it happens

What to do

A current student gets an error on a Lead Capture form

Lead Capture forms are only for people who are new to your school. An email that's already in NextKick can't be used on one.

For an event, use an Event Registration form instead (Step 1). To sign up for a membership, use a Membership Registration form.

An error when the family chooses Cash on a membership form

The membership they chose uses autopay. Some autopay memberships can't be paid in cash on a form.

Ask the family to pay by card or bank account. If they'll pay cash each month, add the membership yourself with Auto Invoice. See What Is Auto Invoice?

The family can't choose ACH, even though ACH is on

ACH has to be on in the form and allowed for the revenue type.

Check the form's Payment Methods (Step 2) and Payment methods by revenue type. Also see How to Choose Which Payment Methods Students Can Register. If ACH still doesn't show, contact NextKick support.

A message that the email is already registered

The email is already in NextKick, so it can't create a new account.

Ask the family to use that same email and verify it. The sign-up is then added to the existing student instead of a new profile.

The family can choose only one membership for several children

With Allow Multiple Participants, the family picks one membership per submission.

If siblings need different memberships, the family submits the form once for each (Step 3).

Children entered in a custom question, such as "2nd child's name," weren't registered

Custom questions only collect answers. They don't register anyone.

Have the family add each child with + Add Family Member (Step 3).

You can't change a form's type

A form's type is set when you create it and can't be changed.

Create a new form of the right type and share its link instead.

A submission didn't show up

The person may have a status you've filtered out.

Check the form's submissions and Accounts → Profiles (Step 4).

Step 1: Let current students sign up for an event

Lead Capture forms are only for people who are new to your school. For an event that current students sign up for, use an Event Registration form.

  1. Create the event in Events → Events Management. See How to Create an Event in NextKick.

  2. Go to Marketing Tools → Forms and click Add new form.

  3. Choose Event Registration and click Continue.

  4. Enter a Form Title and click Continue.

  5. Connect the form to your event, then click Save.

  6. Share the new form's link with families.

Tip: Instead of creating the form yourself, turn on Create a sign-up form for this event when you create or edit the event, and the form is made for you. See How to share your events with a link or QR code.

Step 2: Check the form's payment methods

  1. Go to Marketing Tools → Forms and open the form.

  2. Click Actions → Edit.

  3. Under Payment Methods, check which of Credit Card, ACH and Cash are on.

  4. Click Save.

  • A method you can't turn on is turned off for that revenue type. Allow it in Settings → Payments under Payment methods by revenue type, then edit the form again.

  • ACH only appears once your school accepts bank transfers. See Accept Bank Account (ACH) Payments.

  • For families who pay cash every month, add the membership yourself with Auto Invoice instead of using the form.

Step 3: Sign up siblings

Allow Multiple Participants lets one parent register more than one child in a single form.

  • Families add each child with + Add Family Member on the form.

  • Don't use custom questions such as "2nd child's name" to collect siblings. Answers to custom questions don't register anyone.

  • The family picks one membership per submission. If siblings need different memberships, they submit the form once for each membership.

Step 4: Find a submission that didn't show up

  1. Go to Marketing Tools → Forms and open the form to see its submissions.

  2. Go to Accounts → Profiles, set the Status filter to Select All, and search by name.

  3. Depending on the form, the person may show as Lead, On Trial, Event or another status. See Member Statuses, Explained.

Email verification and existing emails

  • Ask families to always use the email they're registered with. They verify it with a 6-digit code, and the sign-up is added to their existing profile.

  • You can turn email verification off on Lead Capture, Membership Registration and Trial Sign-up forms. It's always on for Custom Payment Item, Testing Registration, Event Registration and eStore Products forms. See Why We Recommend Email Verification on Your Forms.
