How to Book a Trial Student's First Class

Let new families book a trial class with your trial link, or add a trial student to a class yourself.

Written by Ben Ryoo

A trial student can get into their first class in two ways: the family books it with your trial link, or your staff add them to a class. This guide covers both, and what to set up first.

Before you start

Step 1: Open your classes to trial students

Each program has a Trial Enrollment setting. You can see it on the program's page in Schedule → Program Management. Only programs open to trial students show up on your trial link.

Trial Enrollment

Who can book

Not Available

Members only. The program's classes don't appear on your trial link.

Trial Only

Only leads and trial members can see these classes, in the app or through your shared schedule links.

Trial Available

Members and trial students can both book these classes.

Trial Member Limit sets how many trial students one class can take, separate from the class capacity.

Step 2: Let the family book with your trial link

  1. Go to Schedule → Program Management.

  2. Click Share Trial Link.

  3. Click Copy Link to copy the link, or Download to save the QR code.

  4. Send the link by text or email, or add the link or QR code to your website, social media or front desk.

Families see only the classes open to trial students. They can pick a class and book it without logging in.

Tip: On your Trial Sign-up form, use Custom Landing Page to send families straight to your trial classes after they submit the form. See How to Create a Sign-up Form.

Step 3: Add a trial student to a class yourself

Use this when a family calls or walks in and you book the class for them.

  1. Open the Calendar and click the class.

  2. In the panel that opens, click Add Trial Member.

  3. Choose This schedule only to add the student to that one class. Choose This and all future schedules to add them to every class from that date on. Click Confirm.

  4. Select the lead or trial student. If they aren't in NextKick yet, click Add New Student to create them.

  5. Click Save.

  • Add Trial Member appears only on classes whose program is set to Trial Only or Trial Available.

  • Leads (including FrontKick and SideKick leads) and On Trial members appear in the list. Trial students are added without a rank.

Step 4: Follow up after the booking

Why can't a family see a class on the trial link?

The program may be set to Not Available, or the class may have reached its Trial Member Limit. See Why Can't a Student Check In or Book a Class?

Does the family need the student app to book?

No. The trial link works in any browser without logging in.

What status does a new trial student get?

Families who book with your trial link are added as a Lead. Families who buy a trial membership on a Trial Sign-up form are added as On Trial.

Does a lead need a trial membership to book a Trial Only class?

Why isn't a student in the list when I click Add Trial Member?

Only Lead and On Trial members appear in that list. Check the student's status on their profile. See Member Statuses, Explained.
